Mysore Place- Awash in light and glory (Dussehra visit)

I have visited Mysore many times but this time I happened to be there during the Dussehra festivities.
It is a 10 day festival with the last day being Vijaydashami (meaning the victory of good over evil).
On this last day, which happens to be the most auspicious, the traditional Dussehra  procession (locally known as Jumboo Savari) is held on the streets .

Apart from various dance and music shows which are held in the city during this time , there is an exhibition which is held in the exhibition ground opposite to the Palace.
Various stalls which sell items like clothes, plastic items, kitchenware, cosmetics and eatables are set up and they attract a significant number of people.

Mysore has a long tradition and history of celebrating Dussehra and the entire city is decked up like a bride. There is traffic to match and people galore from all parts of the world.

This has to be seen to be believed. There is so much energy and enthusiasm in the air. Also, since Dussehra falls in the month of September or October the ordinarily hot Mysore  feels relatively  cooler.

The main attraction of the ten-day Mysore Dussehra festival is the Mysore Palace which is illuminated daily with nearly 100,000 light bulbs from 7 pm to 10 pm on all days of the festival.

There is no ticket which needs to be purchased to witness this event.

Ensure you are there in good time to facilitate smooth entry into the Palace complex.

In the non-Dussehra phase the palace is lit up from 7 to 7:30 PM every Sunday.

We reached the Palace grounds around 7:15. The palace was already lit up by then. Some people say its better to come before the lighting up begins as the synchronized lighting up is mesmerizing.
Am sure it would be.
Reserving it for next time, Perhaps

Walking towards the palace complex

Through the locked gate

Look at the crowd

Pushing and jostling continues..we are Indians!!!

In the above pictures we are still outside. There was one main gate and 2 smaller gates on either sides.
The main gate did not get open. I kept standing there for a while thinking it would.

The smaller gates were being opened from time to time to let some people in. In India, you can expect all the pushing and jostling. Goes without saying.

The Palace left us speechless and mesmerized to say the least.
The ambiance was just perfect, with some cultural programs going on in front of the palace and a pleasant breeze blowing

We finally exited and the following pictures were taken outside on the street...
